IF YOU ARE RUNNING IN RACE THE NEIGHBOURS 2019, PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE
The run will start promptly at 9.30am on Sunday 14th July. To ensure that you have time to drop off your bag and take care of any last minute business, we would encourage you to arrive by 8.30am.
Race numbers and timing
This year you can save time on the day by picking up your race number in advance, as follows:
La Dinette, 3-5 Fortis Green Road, Muswell Hill, London N10 3HP. You can pick up your number from Muswell Hill’s finest café, from Tuesday 9th July until Friday 12th July between 8.30am and 5.30pm, and on Saturday 13th July from 9am - 12pm.
If you don't manage to pick up your number in advance you can pick up your race number (and safety pins) on the morning of the run at the registration desk in Cherry Tree Wood. Please note that if you enter the race after Friday 28th June then your only option will be to pick up your number on the morning of the run.
We will not be sending you anything by post prior to race day.
Your race number incorporates a timing chip so in order to receive your final time, it is essential that you wear your race number throughout the run. Individual results will be available at the finish and a full set of results posted on our website soon after the run completes.
Once you have picked up your number (whether in advance or on the day) don't forget to write your name and emergency details on the back of your race number.
The run starts and finishes in Cherry Tree Wood, in East Finchley. Many of you can arrive on foot! If you are not local, we would encourage you to come via public transport. East Finchley underground station (Northern Line) is directly across the road from Cherry Tree Wood and is served by several local buses. We are not aware of any planned engineering works on the tube but please do keep an eye out. If you do choose to drive, there is ample all day parking in the East Finchley station car park for £1.50 - the postcode for your sat nav is N2 0NW.
Bags and toilets
We will have a bag drop-off point set up in Cherry Tree Wood, so you can leave your bag there and pick it up at the end of the race. There are toilets at the start.
Stretch and warm up
Our friends at Fierce Grace Muswell Hill hot yoga studio will be organising a beautiful pre-race stretch from 8:50am so make sure you get there in time for a communal limbering up.
And there’s more! Our other pals from MighTeeFit personal training will be getting everyone warmed up from 9.10am, the perfect pre-race preparation.
The run is a stunning 10k route through the parkland of N2 and N10 with some fantastic views over London. You can view the route here.
While most of the course is relatively flat, we do have to earn our spectacular views in Alexandra Park via a long, and sometimes steep, hill between 4km and 5km, so please be prepared for that and don’t overdo it in the first 4km.
The route is mainly in parks but does have several sections where you will be running along the pavement on public roads – Woodside Avenue and Muswell Hill Road. Neither of these roads is closed for the event so please be especially considerate to pedestrians and be very mindful of other road users. Remember, it’s only a race.
There are four road-crossings on the course, all of which take place at fully marshalled zebra crossings. Please listen to the marshals and remember that it is your responsibility to obey the highway code at all times. We strongly request that you do not wear ipods or headphones during the race. It makes you far less aware of any potential danger around you and besides anything else you will miss the chance to meet the neighbours whilst you are racing them.
Finally, please be aware that the route passes through narrow gates at the exit and re-entry to Cherry Tree Woods (0.5km and 9.5km) and at the exit of Highgate Woods (8.5km). At each of these points runners will be directed to pass in single file in order to avoid any accidents. Please keep your eyes open and listen to the race marshals.
There are three water stations at approximately 2.5km, 5km and 7.5km on the course. There will also be water and bananas available in Cherry Tree Woods after the run.
We are able to keep the course fully open and marshalled for 90 minutes. If you believe that it may take you longer than that to complete the run, please do let us know so that we can discuss appropriate arrangements for you.
Prizes will of course be awarded to the quickest overall male and female runners. And there will also be prizes for the fastest male and female runners from each of N2 and N10 plus the fastest ‘visiting’ man and woman from outside either N2 or N10 (excluding the overall winners).
And of course, we have the return of the Cherry Tree Cup, our now annual trophy awarded to the suburb (either N2 or N10) whose residents are the quickest. East Finchley took the spoils in 2015 and 2016, while Muswell Hill prevented an N2 hat trick with a storming win in 2017. N2 were back with a vengeance last year, so it’s 3-1 to East Finchley. This year? Anything could happen. Don’t worry at all if you’re not resident in either N2 or N10 - we are absolutely delighted to welcome you to run in our wonderful neighbourhood.
Your running number will indicate if you are ‘Running for N2’, ‘Running for N10’ or ‘Just Running’ on the day so do look out for this when you pick up your number.
Race the Primary Neighbours
This year we have a new competition. Parents from two local primary schools will be competing for the right to say they are the fastest in the neighbourhood. So please give a warm welcome to parents from Martin Primary School in N2 who are racing against parents from Eden Primary School in N10. They are on a mission to raise funds for the schools so please do look out for them and give them a wave (or a donation!).
Don’t run if you are not up to it

Please consider running for All People All Places
A huge shout out to All People All Places, an amazing local charity which we are supporting this year. APAP do wonderful work in organising our local community to offer shelter to homeless people during the cold winter months. If you are thinking of running for a great cause then please consider raising funds for APAP. Details of how to set up your own charity page are here.
